How Sustainable Projects Are Showing Us The Way Forward
Sustainable projects take the human race to a new level where considerations beyond short-sighted economic growth affect choices which are made. Social and environmental effects are also considered, and the result is something which can be of use not only to the current generations, but to all future generations which will inhabit this planet. In devising sustainable projects, the primary consideration is a simple one. The project must be able to continue indefinitely into the future, without depleting any resource which cannot be replaced. These projects can cover an enormously wide range of purposes and applications.
One of the areas which has attracted a great deal of publicity in recent times is energy. So many people are now becoming aware that the fossil fuels which form the vast majority of the world's energy consumption are running out, that they cannot be made to last forever, and that alternatives must be found. This does not even mention the fact that these fossil fuels are highly polluting, and that they release toxic residues into the environment. Many sustainable projects have been developed worldwide with the idea of developing alternative renewable technologies.
The sun is a resource which we can use without any fear of it running out or drying up. Sunlight shines on the Earth every day without fail, and indeed it must continue to do so if any life on Earth is to survive. Because of this, it is an ideal focus for sustainable projects. Many regions of the world could satisfy their entire energy need if solar energy systems could be developed to a high enough standard. Even in temperate regions which experience high cloud cover, there is still ample opportunity for solar energy to play an important part.
These renewable solar energy projects have been set up to create prototype systems, which are then taken forward by commercial organizations. These projects often receive government subsidy, in recognition of the importance of their success. Wind power projects are also vital in moving the world over to a more sustainable source of energy. In areas of the globe where the sun is not that strong, there tends to be a lot of wind. Wind also tends to blow during the night hours when of course there is no sunlight at all.
A combination of wind and solar power is, therefore, ideal. One is at its strongest while the other is dormant, or at least at its weakest. The two together, along with hydrogen as a storer of energy, have the potential to create a fully sustainable future of non polluting renewable energy which can serve the human race indefinitely in to the future. The work which is being put in now in these prototype projects will pay off very handsomely in terms of the future of the entire human race. In the decades to come, when the world has sustainable clean energy, a lot will be owed to the pioneers of today and their sustainable projects.
